Name: Lowen
Game/Series: Fire Emblem 7 (Blazing Sword/Rekka no Ken)
Age & Grade Level: 17, freshman
Personality: Lowen is, primarily, a very good-natured kinda guy. He is kind, considerate, and hard-working (if not a bit ineffectual at times). Known for his zeal, he does his best to keep up an energetic and positive outlook on life, though it can sometimes be knocked down by his own low self-image. This, however, does not stop him from doing his very best at everything he does -- from cooking, to fighting, to just being a good person.
Unfortunately, he tends to push himself a bit too far if no one is there to keep an eye on him. He’s got slight workaholic tendencies, and resists the idea of “taking a break” if he thinks something needs to be done. Compounded with his own paranoia about missing meals, he can be a bit frustrating to work with if you don’t have a little patience.
As mentioned before, Lowen has slight self-esteem issues. He is very hard on himself, and is unsettled by even his slightest accidents. He may be a much more capable soldier than he was at the beginning of his training, but he is acutely aware of how much work he still needs.
Backstory: Lowen was born in a tiny, poor, nondescript little village on the outskirts of Pherae. His mother died when he was about two, so his grandfather stepped in to help raise him. They did pretty well, considering they were all dirt poor and were almost constantly facing food shortages. Because of this, along with his father previously being Marquess Pherae’s personal chef, Lowen is near obsessed with food preparation and good nutrition.
Life pretty much went on without incident, until when he was about eight or so, a bunch of bandits decided, “Hey, let’s raid this here village! … For some reason!”
And so they did.
Or, rather, they tried. Sir Harken, an esteemed knight of Pherae, despite knowing full well that there would be no materialistic benefit, came to save the village. And damn, did he kick ass. It was this act of heroism that sparked Lowen’s passion to be a true knight, just like Harken.
For a while after, nothing of interest happened. Lowen kept daydreaming about becoming a knight, but he knew that he had to stay home and help his father and grandfather run the house. Grandfather was too old to keep things up himself, and his father had thrown out his back years ago while serving as a cook for the Marquess.
However, after the both of them died (his grandfather when Lowen was 13, his father when he was 16), Lowen dropped everything and enlisted in the Pheraean army. (More likely than not, it was his father’s connection with the Marquess that got him in at all, but he‘s never considered that.) It was a bit impulsive, yes, but Lowen had no doubt that he would be happier serving the people as a knight than anything else.
It was hard at first. He had no previous battle training, no experience… Heck, it was only the third time he’d even left his hometown.
To this day, Lowen has no rightly idea why General Marcus picked him to journey with himself and Lord Eliwood in search of Lord Elbert. He theorizes that it probably has something to do with his skill as a chef, but it‘s more likely that Marcus saw some sort of potential in the boy... Well, that and the kid was a pretty good chef, maybe.
During the expedition (which actually took a surprising turn about midway through), Lowen did a lot of growing up. He learned several lessons, many of them unpleasant, and all of them hard. He was in many tough battles, and took many lives. The latter haunts him quite a bit… he copes by not thinking about it, as I assume all manly men do.
He also made close friends out of Sir Harken, Dame Isadora, General Marcus, and even Lord Eliwood himself. Particularly, though, he became close with another Pherean; Rebecca, an archer from a small town who had set out in search of her brother, Dan. She’s probably the only person Lowen can really relax with, being of a similar background and having a shared interest in cooking.
After the long journey was over with, he was personally knighted by Sir Marcus himself. Lowen was overjoyed, but he knew that he was hardly as good as he could be. He needed a lot more training if he was ever going to be on par with General Marcus or Lord Harken.
He learned of Sumabura by word of mouth. Apparently, there was some sort of prestigious fighting school a ways away… some of the greatest warriors went there to learn. He got up the courage to ask Marcus and Eliwood if he could go, and, after a bit of consideration, was given permission to attend.
Unfortunately, he learned a bit late… compounded with his own rather slow paceand a battle in every town, he’s definitely not going to be there on time.
Oh well.
Anything Else?:
- Like all other FE folks, Lowen’s got no knowledge or skills with modern technology.
- Lowen comes from the same country as Roy… but he’s a few decades behind the redhead. Expect brain-breaking confusion and time warp-related discussion.
- Lowen’s got the slightest crush on Rebecca, but I won’t solidify anything unless we get someone to actually play her (or a Wolt who wants a Lowen-daddy :P).
- In-game, Lowen’s probably graduated to Paladin by now. Thus, he’s gonna need a bit of practice with those axes (along with the ever-popular LANCE THRUST, amirite?). Also, I’ll probably still use his Cavalier sprites in his icons. Just ‘cuz.
- Also, now that he’s a knight, you should be calling him Sir Lowen… not that he’s gonna correct you if you get it wrong. Actually, he’d probably be a little embarrassed if you DID call him that.
- COOKING CLASS HE IS SO THERE.
Speaking of which, he is crazy-obsessed with nutrition. He’s got this HUGEASS “emergency rations” bag that he carries with him everywhere. (If he offers you something to snack from it, you know you’re in good with him. Or maybe he’s just being nice. Who knows.) If somebody has missed a meal, he’ll freak out. If he misses a meal, he goes crazy. He just works himself up too much - no real health problems here.
